Chiropractic Done Right
Learn More About Our Approach
Chiropractic care has become main stream. This is evidenced by the fact that the largest group of referrals to our clinic each month now come from the medical community. Even though we treat orthopedic surgeons, internal medicine doctors, general practitioners, E.R. doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, physical therapists, and dentists, some people are still unsure about chiropractors. It is not uncommon for us to hear: “Oh, I would never go to a chiropractor.”
We have identified two major reasons why this attitude still exists. The first is that many people really do not understand chiropractic. The second reason is that many, if not most chiropractors try to convince their patients to commit to long-term contracts for treatments. People are naturally wary of being told that their future health depends upon seeing a chiropractor forever. We are going to describe exactly how chiropractic is done right at Zimmer Chiropractic and Functional Medicine and we will let you know, in no uncertain terms, why we do not believe in long-term chiropractic contracts.
The Logic of Chiropractic
Pain is one of the great communicators that God has given us to alert our bodies that something is not as it should be. The basis of Chiropractic is that when the body loses normal function, health suffers. This normal function is important in all joints, but even more important in the spine. The reason for this is because the spine is the foundation for all movement in the body and is the housing for your spinal cord. Nerves coming from your spine feed all of your bodily tissues (muscles, skin, and your organs) with important information coming from your brain. Nerves also send vital information back to your brain which is needed to make you tick.
If there is a loss of proper movement in a segment of the spine, there will be a change in the way muscles, joints and other tissues around that area function. This change in proper function of your muscles and joints causes you to experience symptoms.
The logic of Chiropractic is simple. If we can work to normalize the movement and function of your spine, many symptoms will go away. We also employ the use of physical therapy exercises to strengthen the muscles supporting your spine. This is treatment that addresses the cause of the symptom. Returning the body to normal function makes sense at the most basic level. Once normal function is re-established, the body heals. Our assessment of your condition will include an evaluation of where your body has lost some of its proper biomechanical function. Our goal will be to correct these problems to not only help resolve your symptoms, but to also provide long term benefits to your overall health.
Chiropractic Treatment Contracts
The second reason for apprehension towards chiropractic is related to the fact that many chiropractors try to “sell” their patients on long-term care contracts. Let us be honest and blunt. This is done for one reason and that reason has nothing to do with your health. The reason, as most people intuitively know, has to do with profits for the chiropractor. This can be proven fairly easily by asking a simple, yet logical question. How in the world could any doctor perform one examination on you and be able to then determine you would need months and many dozens of chiropractic treatments? Now that would be a fantastic doctor, since every patient is different. Even patients with similar symptoms respond to treatments differently. Thus, no doctor can determine how many treatments you will need unless they have a crystal ball. The sales job is done for the benefit of the chiropractor, not the patient. In our view this dishonest approach to patient care leads many to become apprehensive about the whole field of chiropractic.
As a new patient you find that we present our patients with common sense treatment options based on what is best for you…not us. The bottom line is that we are here to be of service to you and not the other way around.
